Artist/Biography Statement

I am basically self taught, but have refined my skills with college courses and workshops.

I grew up in rural Iowa where I was surrounded by fields, vast skies, trees and flowers. With my mother's encouragement I experimented with oils, watercolor and pen/ink before settling on acrylic paints.

Florals have been my primary interest up until moving to Colorado where I discovered the beauty of Aspen trees.  Since moving to Colorado I have entered and placed in several local juried art exhibits.

I have recently moved to South Carolina and have found many nature inspired influences.  I believe that the textured background in a painting is just as important as the detailed foreground.  This can be seen in all of my nest artwork.

Statement of Artistic Mission

I am inspired by all nature has to offer.  Recently I have tried to capture the beauty in something as simple as a bird's nest.

It is my goal to invite the viewer to recognize that nests symbolize the unborn promise of possibilities.  For that reason, the majority of my work is of nests.

I work in acrylic on highly textured multi-layered panels.  I found that this unique type of background draws the viewer in.  It is my hope that any nature lover will enjoy my work.
